Korean Students attend Special Internship Program in CPSC

A three-week Special Internship Program was organized by CPSC for five Engineering and Management students from Korea University of Technology and Education (KUT) from August 8 to 25, 2011 in Manila, Philippines.

The objectives of the Special Internship Program were to: appreciate the emerging challenges of green economy in the 21st century; develop awareness on soft skills required for increasing professional efficiency; comprehend the concepts of R&D in TVET and understand research tools and methodologies; gain exposure to multicultural environment; and acquire practical work experience related to their future work through industrial immersion.

The student trainees gained new insights from the lectures which provided discussions on developing generic skills in the workplace, demonstration and drills on effective communication with the use of the English language, preparation of research project and industry immersion synthesis. Some practical tasks comprised of critical thinking exercises, official letters and news writing, research proposal development, mock job interviews and many other structured learning exercises which allowed students to apply knowledge gained from the lectures.

A significant component of the program was the industrial immersion program held at the Toyota Motor Philippines Corporation (TMPC), Sta. Rosa City, Laguna from August 15 to 19, 2011. The KUT students gained learnings from the lectures by notable TMPC speakers on Safety, Waste Management, Toyota Production System, Toyota Way, Quality Control, and 5S, among other topics. A manufacturing plant tour, eco-tour, hands – on sessions, and visit to Don Bosco Technical Institute (Makati Campus) to showcase industry – institute linkage were also facilitated during the 5-day immersion program. The Toyota Motor Philippines Foundation, Inc. (TMPF) headed by the President Dr. David Go coordinated the immersion component with Mr. Ronald Gaspar, TMPF Corporate Social Responsibility Coordinating Manager as the Lead Coordinator. Mr. Gaspar graced the closing ceremonies and wished the students success in their chosen careers in the future.

The CPSC Director General Dr. Mohammad Naim Yaakub supervised the overall management of the program. Prof. Rajesh P. Khambayat, Ph.D., CPSC Faculty Consultant, acted as Program Coordinator and Resource Person. The roster of resource persons include Prof. TJ Tesoro-Gayondato, Chair, Projects and Consultancy Division, Engr. Md. Jahangir Alam, CPSC Faculty Specialist, Mr. Choi Seung – Ho, Director General, Human Resources Development Service of Korea in the Philippines, and Mr. Rae Emmanuel Echaveria, CPSC Research Assistant.
