CPSC conducts training on TQM for TVET in Bhutan

To facilitate understanding on the working knowledge on TQM and its application in TVET systems, an In-Country Program on “Total Quality Management (TQM) for Technical and Vocational Education & Training (TVET) Systems” was organized by the Colombo Plan Staff College for Technician Education (CPSC) in collaboration with the Department of Human Resources (DHR), Ministry of Labour and Human Resources (MoLHR), Thimphu, Kingdom of Bhutan from April 5 to 9, 2011.

The program primarily discussed the different types of quality management models and methodologies and their applications in various TVET institutions in Bhutan. It was specifically designed to explain the paradigms of TQM and create a TQM TVET institution where processes on implementing quality tools and techniques will also be applied. Each participant was guided and assisted to prepare an action plan for establishing TQM Kaizen/5S in a TVET institution.

Distinguished guests and senior officials from various government offices of the country graced the Inaugural and Closing ceremonies including: Mr. Jamyang Gallay, Director, Department of Education and Mr. Nima Dorji, Deputy Secretary, Administration and Finance Division, MoLHR and Mr. Sangay Dorjee, Director, Department of Occupational Standards (DoS), MoLHR who also acted as Local Resource Person.

Dr. Romulita Alto, former CPSC Faculty Consultant, and currently Research Consultant at the Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP), was the Program Coordinator and Resource Person. Mr. Karma Dorji, Sr. P.O, TPSD, on the other hand, was the Local Coordinator.

A total of 22 participants, comprised of CEOs, principals, directors, general managers, heads, instructors and officers, participated in the ICP which gave them opportunity to update and strengthen their learnings on vital working knowledge on TQM to apply and implement in their respective institutions.
