Emphasizing the value of research and development in enhancing the relevance of TVET instruction and further developing a research culture in TESDA institutions, the Colombo Plan Staff College for Technician Education (CPSC), in collaboration with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), concluded a five-day In-Country Program on “Research and Development in TVET” from May 16 to 20, 2011 at the National TVET Trainers Academy (NTTA) Campus, Marikina City, Philippines.
TESDA officials led by Atty. Teodoro Pascua, Deputy Director General for Field Operations; and Dir. Ted Sanico, Executive Director of the Office of TESDA Technology Institutions; Dir. Felicidad Zurbano, Director of NTTA formally opened the ICP welcoming all the participants and guests of the program. They underscored the importance of research in the field of TVET and encouraged the participants to be “more than what they have become” by being open and eager to learn modern techniques and ideas in research.
Dr. Rajesh P. Khambayat, CPSC Officer-in-Charge, expressed his highly positive views in having more in-country programs in the Philippines which shall facilitate continued and strengthened partnership with TESDA as focal agency of CPSC in the country. He also expressed high appreciation to TESDA for continuously working hand in hand with the College in threading the same path of improving TVET in the Philippines and across the Asia-Pacific region. Dr. Khambayat also acts as Program Coordinator and Resource Person of the program.
The program successfully imparted learning on the following topics: development of research tools, developing instruments using the SPSS software, data analysis and interpretation and some of the practical tips in doing a research proposal. Twenty-four (24) delegates comprised of administrators from Technical Training Institutions (TTTI) of TESDA from various regions in the Philippines participated in the program and gained increased awareness and interest on the said topics.
The roster of resource persons include Dr. Romulita Alto, former CPSC Faculty Counsultant and currently Research Consultant at the Technological Institute of the Philippines, Ms. Maria Susan P. Dela Rama, Executive Director, Public Information Office and e-TESDA, TESDA and Mr. Rae Emmanuel Echaveria, Research Assistant, CPSC.
Dir. Felicidad Zurbano led the local coordinating team of the program which consisted of all the faculty and staff of NTTA.
The program was one of the capacity building efforts of TESDA to develop a “research culture” among TVET institutions across the country in active collaboration with CPSC.
