Effective Curriculum Development for Technical Education discussed at CPSC program in Myanmar

In view of providing a platform for sharing of experiences and expertise on effective curriculum development relevant to the country’s socio-economic demands, CPSC conducted an In-Country Program on Curriculum Development Program for Technical Education from October 1 to 5, 2012 at the Myanmar Scientific and Technological Research Department in Yangon, Myanmar.

Thirty (30) participants gained further understanding on the emerging trends in industry, standards of competency-based curriculum, identification of competencies, competency-based curriculum in TVET and emergent and current trends affecting TVET. The program participants mostly composed of administrators, academic heads, educators and training providers from various TVET institutions in Myanmar enhanced their skills on the development of competency standards using Delphi Approach, applying DACUM and Delphi Approaches to TVET curriculum design and developing competency-based curriculum in TVET.

The overall supervision and management of the program was under the helm of Dr. Mohammad Naim Yaakub, CPSC Director General and Dr. Zaw Min Aung, Director General, Department of Technical and Vocational Education (DTVE), Ministry of Science and Technology, Yangon, Myanmar.

Dr. Romulita Alto, former Faculty Consultant of CPSC and currently Research Consultant at the Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP), Philippines acted as Resource Person and Program Coordinator. While Mr. Win Khaing Moe, Deputy Director General of Myanmar Scientific and Technological Research Department acted as Local Coordinator of the program. Both handled the smooth implementation and organization of the program.

Dr. Mya Mya Oo, Rector of Technological University of Myanmar together with Dr. Zaw Min Naing, Pro-Rector of the same university welcomed the participants at the opening day of the program and provided support for the implementation of the program. Dr. Myint Han, Honorary Consul of the Consulate of Sweden Yangon, graced the inaugural day and handed the program certificates at the closing ceremonies as Chief Guest of the program. U Myint Zaw, Joint Secretary General of the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Vice President of Myanmar Industry Association was the Local Expert who shared his knowledge on the emerging trends and issues in Myanmar’s technology and industry.
