The Director General of the Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) Dr. Mohammad Naim Yaakub visited the Global Institute for Transferring Skills (GIFTS) HRD Korea on September 9, 2013. The DG met the Executive Director Dr. Eom Joon-Chul and Ms. Minjeong Park, Manager of Global Cooperation Team.
Dr. Naim went to Korea primarily to participate at the UNESCO-UNEVOC Regional Forum for the Asia and the Pacific held from September 4 to 6, 2013.
The objective of the meeting was to apprise GIFTS, HRD Korea of the current developments in CPSC and discuss ways to collaborate on programs mutually beneficially for both organizations. Two relevant and interesting program themes were generated during the discussion – green growth and success story of the Republic of Korea in uplifting itself from an underdeveloped to developed country in terms of economic, environmental, and social perspectives.
It is interesting to note that the Republic of Korea has been consistently winning the World Skills Competition being held every two years. This impressive feat demonstrates Korea’s competence in skills development which may be shared with other member countries of CPSC.
CPSC and HRD Korea have collaborated in the past in implementing regional programs. It was hoped by both parties that the partnership will continue and positive developments will ensue as a product of discussion.
