The Theme for the 2022 Event
For 2022, the organizers adopted the theme “Stronger Together, Majulah!”. According to the organizers of the National Day Parade (NDPC, 2022), it is a call for all Singaporeans to forge ahead as a united and strong people towards a better future. “Stronger Together” is also a reminder for Singaporeans that unity in diversity is what makes the nation stronger. “Majulah”, which means “onward”, encapsulates the hopes and spirit of a nation since its independence 57 years ago, and is a rallying call for Singaporeans to strive for a better future, and grow from strength to strength as the nation emerges from COVID-19.
The logo portrays a Singapore that is stronger when love and compassion bring everyone together, and our national ideals continue to spur the nation to greater heights.
The two figures holding hands and embracing a heart represent Singaporeans coming together to build a strong, inclusive, and caring society. The heart symbolizes love for the nation and countrymen and puts empathy and compassion at the center. The two figures also outline the number “57”, reminding the citizens of how far they have come since independence, the challenges they overcame, and the progress that they made as an independent and sovereign nation. The five shooting stars show that when everyone comes together, Singapore will move forward stronger as a nation, guided by the ideals of Democracy, Peace, Progress, Justice, and Equality for all.
Celebrations
After having to postpone the parade last year due to the pandemic, the National Day Parade returns this year on 9 August 2022 at the Floating Platform. Hosted by Joakim Gomez, Sonia Chew, Siti Khalijah, and Rishi Budhrani, this year’s National Day Parade will embody the theme ‘Stronger Together, Majulah!’. In two parts, the National Day Parade 2022 will also pay tribute to our National Serviceman as the Singapore National Service will also celebrate its 55th anniversary this year. The National Day Parade 2022 will also see the return of many favorite moments, from the flag fly-by to the Red Lions to the NDP fireworks (Sassy Mama, 15 July 2022).
