The banking industry in the 21st century is operating in an environment that requires top bank professionals to possess good combination of hard banking skills, exceptional leadership qualities and amiable interpersonal attitudes for the success of the bank industry today.
Banking professionals have to deal with tremendous pressure and numerous responsibilities every day of their professional lives. Thus, they need to be efficient in managing multiple operations and should have attention to details at the same time. They have to be always on top of any situations considering emerging technological changes in the processes of the bank industry in the 21st century. Bank leaders of today have to cope with the requirements of the digital global setting confronting the world in this century.
Qualities of an effective bank executive include leadership, good organization and problem-solving skills. An exceptional leadership quality and problem solving skills of a top bank executive helps the bank to meet its targets, find solutions, make way for new opportunities and builds confidence among peers and subordinates that challenges encountered by the bank is ensured to be surpassed. Good organization in banking jobs help in maintaining and managing important records and documentation, which is very crucial for the organization.
Banking has been and will always be a "People Centered Business". For banking, the importance of Human Resource Management (HRM) has grown manifold because the industry has crossed the national boundaries and customers are knowledgeable and demand prompt services these days. The human factor has now been recognized as one of the key elements for organizational success. The growing importance of the human factor and of HRM) due to its pervasive nature have tended to change the role of today’s managers-line and specialist, in terms of handling human resource issues.
Due to increased digitalization and automation in the banking industry, this sector has also become more risky and data security and cyber threats are emerging challenges in the industry. Therefore, the effectiveness of HRM is the key to sustainability of the industry and to provide quality and efficient services to the customers in this globalized industry faced with cut-throat competition.
Apart from the leadership development of bank executives, the program targets to provide insights on major transformations, trends, best practices, policies and challenges in the financial sector in the country through face to face discussions supplemented by institutional visits.
This training program conducted by BFIN in collaboration with CPSC is targeted to HR professionals to provide updated knowledge and skills in the key areas of HR management.
The program aims for participants to:
- Understand leadership challenges, professional accountabilities and responsibilities of bank professionals of financial institutions
- Comprehend the concepts, principles and functions of HR to enhance managerial effectiveness;
- Comprehend the concept of group dynamics required for being an effective team player;
- Apply the relevant principles of staff recruitment and selection in HRM;
- Apply the principles of ICT & digital technology for effective HR Management;
- Apply the relevant stress management techniques in given situation; and
- Develop an effective performance appraisal (PA) plan.
- Module One: Strategic HR Management - This module aims at understanding the business environment, aligning HR Strategies with Business Goals, setting targets and performance measurements, talent acquisition, retention and management.
- Module Two: Digitalization - The objective of this module is to understand (1) Data Security, Cyber Security and protection measures adopted by Philippines Banks and (2) understand the Philippines Bank’s organization and culture and post covid19 working models and innovation
- Module Three: Leadership and Change Management in Banking and Finance - This module aims for participants to understand the changing managerial knowledge in the areas of Leadership, Customer Orientation, Design Thinking and Innovation, Motivation, Coaching Communication and Team Building.
- Module Four: Exposure visits - The purpose is to learn practically the various operational models from industry/ bank visits.

([email protected]) is the first Sri Lankan and the 12th Director General of CPSC. He is also the concurrent President of Asia Pacific Accreditation and Certification Commission (APACC). Prof. G. L. D. WickramasinghePrior to his appointment as the Director General, he was a professor at the Department of Textile and Clothing Technology, University of Moratuwa, Moratuwa, Sri Lanka since 2015. Here also held key administrative posts during his career: as a former Vice Chancellor of the University of Vocational Technology (2016-2019), former Chairman of the Centre for Open and Distance Learning (CODL) of the University of Moratuwa (2015-2016), and former head of the Department of Textile and Clothing Technology (2009-2012). He also served as the Chairman of Alethea International School (2017-2021), an independent non-executive Director of Orit Apparels Lanka Ltd. (2014-2016), and Sri Lanka Institute of Textile and Apparel (2010-2015). He also served as the Director of Technical and Quality Assurance of Brandix Textiles Ltd (2013-2014). He also served as chairman and member of various public sector strategic and technical committees. He also published over 60 research publications on topics related to textile engineering and educational management, of which over 30 are international refereed journal publications. He was honored with 18 national and international awards including Emerald Literary Award (2018), President's Award for Scientific Publications (2017), and NRC Merit Award for Scientific Publication (2016, 2011). The World Education Congress also honored him with the award for Outstanding Contribution to Education in “Sri Lanka Education Leadership Awards” in 2018. Prof. Wickramasinghe is a graduate of a Bachelor of Science in Textile Engineering from the University of Moratuwa in 1993 by which he obtained first class honors. He finished his PhD at the University of Manchester in 2003. He also obtained a PG Certificate in Learning and Teaching, the University of Arts London, UK in 2006 and an MBA in the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka in 2008. |

His specialization is on electrical engineering, works budget and execution, tendering, monitoring, and evaluation, database management, risk analysis, business development management, consultancy, and public administration management. Engr. Dr. Mian Khuram AhsanPrior to CPSC, he was the Deputy Director at NAVTTC headquarters in Islamabad, Pakistan. Some of his professional experience include working as an Assistant Professor in Electrical Engineering at GCT Nowshera, Director for Coordination and IT and Principal Staff Officer at KP-TEVTA, Chief Research and Development (R&D) and Deputy Director for Training at TE and MT Directorate. He also served as Electrical Engineer in Hydro Tech (PVT) Ltd. In Malakand III, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan as well as being a consultant of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Pakistan. Dr. Ahsan finished his Ph.D. in Power Electronics and Power Drives last 2019 in the School of Electrical and Information Engineering, Zhenjiang Jiangsu University in China, his Master of Project Management last 2014 in ABASYN University, Peshawar Pakistan and his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering Degree in Peshawar College of Engineering at N.W.F.P. University of Engineering and Technology also in Peshawar Pakistan. |

His academic expertise is on optical communication, industrial engineering and instrumentation, satellite communication, wireless communication, computer aided design for electronic design, semiconductor technology, digital communication, RF and Microwave technology. Dr. Kesavan UlaganathenHe obtained his Ph.D. in Wireless Communication at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in 2014, and his Master of Engineering degree in Electrical, Electronic and Telecommunication in 2005 in the same university. He has a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Electronics and Telecommunication) degree from the College University Institute of Tun Hussein Onn (KUITTHO), currently known as UTHM - Malaysia where he also obtained a post-graduate Diploma in Education in 1999. He also has a Certificate and Diploma in Electrical and Telecommunication Engineering from Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Polytechnic in Pahang, Malaysia. He has an extensive teaching experience in higher technical education working as a lecturer at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Polytechnic (POLISAS), Kuantan, Pahang from 1999-2003; and as lecturer and training officer at Sultan Azlan Shah Polytechnic (PSAS), Tanjung Malim, Perak from 2005-2008. He was appointed as Senior Lecturer at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Polytechnic (POLISAS) from 2009-2016. He was posted as Head of Department for Mathematical, Science and Computer at Polytechnic Sandakan Sabah, at East Malaysia at Borneo Island from 2017-2021. His former position was as Principal Lecturer in Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Polytechnic (POLISAS), Kuantan, Pahang in Malaysia. He has been involved in Higher Education Curriculum Development programmes for electrical engineering courses, specifically in the optoelectronic field, in Polytechnics system in Malaysia. He has been involved in consultation works as well, one of his areas is on the 5G network for Malaysia. He has over 25 research publications on electronic and telecommunications which were published in prestigious journals such as the Advanced Journal of Technical and Vocational Education, International Journal of Electronics, and Radioengineering. He is also a reviewer for some of journals articles published by IEEE, PIERS, HINDAWI and others for international publications and conferences. |
Prof. Richard S. Javier is currently an assistant professor at the Department of Health Policy and Administration at the College of Public Health in the University of the Philippines Manila. As a faculty, he teaches management, hospital accounting, hospital financial management, organizational development and human resource development courses to both graduate and undergraduate students. He handles courses in the field of his expertise having worked at conglomerate companies such as healthcare, education, finance, automotive and Information technology, among others. Concurrently, he is also the Human Resource and Development Office Director at the University of the Philippines Manila. As an academician, he conducts researches and extension services in the same fields of discipline. Aside from his present position, he does consulting work with many organizations on matters pertaining to organizational management, human capital management, human resource development, and strategic management and planning. He also serves as consultant and lecturer for the Health and Nutrition Project/Program Planning & Management, teaching management and Logical Framework Approach (LFA) at SEAMEO RECFON, University of Indonesia, Jakarta Indonesia. He is part of the College of Public Health team as an academic partner of DOH Region IV-A together with Zuellig Family Foundation and USAID, in conducting the Municipal Leadership and Governance Program and Heath Leadership and Governance Program. He is the HR and Management Consultant for Medical Mission Group, Hospitals and Health Services Federation and other tertiary hospitals from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. He has a Masters Degree in Business Administration to his name. He finished both his masters and BS Biology degree at the International School for Seventh-day Adventists, the Adventist University of the Philippines. |
