For the second time this fiscal year, a Customized Program for the Banking and Finance Institute of Nepal (BFIN) was organized with the theme of developing HR leadership among the banking and finance personnel of Nepal on October 18-20, 2022. A total of 5 banking managers representing the Nepal Credit and Commerce Bank and the NIC Asia Bank, Ltd. participated in the program.
The program was designed for the participants to understand leadership challenges, professional accountabilities and responsibilities of bank professionals of financial institutions. The lectures will enable them to comprehend the concepts, principles and functions of HR to enhance managerial effectiveness, as well as the concept of group dynamics required for being an effective team player. The exercises were designed for them to have a practical application on the relevant principles of staff recruitment and selection in HRM, as well as the principles of ICT & digital technology for effective HR Management. They are also expected to apply the relevant stress management techniques in a given situation, as well as to develop an effective performance appraisal (PA) plan.
The program supervisors were Prof.G.L.D. Wickramasinghe, CPSC Director General and Dr. Binod Atreya, Managing Director of BFIN. Program resources were coordinated by Engr. Dr. Mian Khuram Ahsan, Senior Faculty Specialist. Some of the local resource materials were delivered by Dr. Kesavan Ulaganathen, CPSC’s GB-Engaged Faculty Consultant, and Prof. Richard S. Javier, MBA-SA, Director of the Human Resource and Development Office, University of the Philippines Manila.
Topics related to HR Planning, ICT and Digital Technology, Stress and Conflict Management, Talent Management, Coordination and Team Building formed the bulk of classroom discussions organized by CPSC resource persons.
Visit of the delegation to the Central Bank of the Philippines in Pasay CIty, Metro Manila
The participants were able to visit the head office of the Bankers Institute of the Philippines (BAIPHIL) on October 19, 2022, and were welcomed by its staff headed by Ms. Racquel B. Mañago, Second Vice President. The delegation were able to discuss with the staff the organization’s nature and structure as well as sharing insights of some of the banking’s best practices in the Philippines and in Nepal. Following this visit, the participants also went to the Digital Fintech Festival at Green Sun Hotel in Makati City. They were able to see various exhibitions from Philippine banks and financial institutions on online banking innovations, and digital banking systems.
Lastly, the delegation was also able to conduct a study visit at the head office of the UnionBank of the Philippines in Ortigas, Pasig City on October 20, 2022. The staff, as coordinated by Ms. Riza Cordova, discussed some banking practices and digital fintech strategies that UnionBank is currently doing in its day-to-day operations to ensure that it constantly meets the needs of its Filipino clients. The participants were able to gain good ideas coming from the discussion.
The program was able to meet its objectives and the participants appreciated the lessons that they have learned from this trip, which they will now use to further improve their existing systems back in their home country.
