The Colombo Plan Staff College and Labtech International Ltd. tapped Sri Lankan TVET trainers to hold an online in-country program on Electrical Basics Using Virtual TVET in Sri Lanka. Held from November 7-11, 2022, the program tapped 14 electrical trainers and instructors for a period of four days. This program of similar nature and modality was previously held in Bangladesh and Pakistan.

Supervising the program are Prof. G.L.D.Wickramasinghe, CPSC Director General; Dr. Steven McKee, President of Labtech International Ltd and Mrs. Muditha Malkanthi Wedumpuli Achchige, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Education of Sri Lanka. Training was facilitated by Mr. Brad Kerr, General Manager of Labtech Academy and additional resources as a program lecturer was provided by Mr. Shahrir Shafiek, Deputy Head of Digital Innovation Center (DICE), Universiti Tunn Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) and Mr. Affero Ismail, Head of Digital Innovation Center (DICE), UTHM.

The opening ceremony was held on November 7, 2022 and was attended by key persons particularly the program supervisors from CPSC, Labtech and NAVTTC. Guests in attendance also included the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Philippines, H.E. Shobini Gunasekera. She affirmed the continued support of the country to CPSC activities and hailed this program as a demonstration of its successful collaboration.

Held via Zoom, This 4-day course provided an introduction for teachers / instructors to a TVET learning management system (LMS) and the Virtual TVET digital learning content. The learning materials or topics were designed to cover the introduction to electrical fundamentals, instruments and meters, electrical components, power supplies, etc. It also goes into developing the students’ knowledge and skills leading to more advanced or practical studies such as residential and commercial wiring systems, electrical machines and their controls, electrical protection systems, etc.
