With the emergence of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or Drones to the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) system due to the rising demand of UAVs in the industrial applications, the Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) and National Institute for Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR)-Chennai, India conducted a webinar titled Drone Technology in TVET last March 14, 2024. The webinar was held via Zoom and was attended by 71 TVET practitioners and academicians, including those who are in other related fields.
CPSC Faculty Consultant Dr. Kesavan Ulaganathen served as the moderator of the two-hour session. Dr. Ulaganathen firstly shared his words of appreciation to the participants and organizers from NITTTR-Chennai. This was followed by the lecture of Dr. Balasubramanian Esakki, Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, NITTTR-Chennai, and the Resource Speaker of the webinar.

Throughout the session, Dr. Esakki concisely presented the following such as: Classification of UAVs; Technical Aspects of UAV; Vocational Education Aspects of UAV; Skill Aspects of UAV; Applications of UAV; Market Trends of UAV; and Training Aspects of UAV. Furthermore, Dr. Esakki discussed the incorporation of Drone Technology, not only in TVET but also in other industries like in construction, mining, oil and gas, wildlife conservation, marine animals, and agriculture. Some videos of drone testing were also shared to see the actual functionality of UAVs. Finally, the webinar ended with a short question and answer which was moderated by Dr. Ulaganathen.
