Sustainability is fundamental to institutional operations and fulfilling the responsibilities of higher education institutions in fostering innovation and addressing pressing environmental challenges. With this, the Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC), together with the Malaysia Green Technology Society and UYERVOM, organized a webinar on Implementing Sustainable Practices: Green Initiatives in Higher Education Institutions, held on July 12, 2024. A total of 79 practitioners and academicians from various disciplines attended the webinar via Zoom platform.
CPSC Governing Board-Engaged Faculty Consultant Dr. Kesavan Ulaganathen inaugurated the webinar and welcomed the participants from various countries and institutions. The webinar consisted of two lectures from Dr. Chandra Sagaran M. Muniandy, Chairman of Malaysia Green Technology Society; and Mr. Raveendran Ramasamy, Principal Lecturer and Career Coach in Politeknik Mersing Johor.

During the sessions, Dr. Chandra provided key points about green technology and sustainable practices which can be adopted by higher education institutions to build a green campus and green practices for sustainable development. Meanwhile, Mr. Raveendran presented his lecture on Hydroponics and how it is being incorporated into sustainable development, and entrepreneurship. Mr. Ravendran also discussed rainwater harvesting, organic waste management, and circular economy concepts in relation to the functions of hydroponics. Lastly, a short question and answer session was facilitated by Dr. Kesavan to conclude the webinar.
