The Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) cordially celebrates with the Republic of Malaysia in commemoration of its 67 years of independence this August 31, 2024. May the spirit of unity and independence guide us as we come together to renew Malaysia’s commitment to its nation.
2024 Theme
The theme for this year’s Independence Day is "Jiwa Merdeka" (Spirit of Independence). According to YB Fahmi Fadzilline, Communications Minister, the theme signifies the progressive nation of Malaysia in line with the government’s commitment to develop the country, and unite the people while encompassing its strong sense of identity, and contributing to continuous harmony among the people of Malaysia.

As aligned with this year’s theme, the official logo has been selected for the Independence Day and Malaysia Day celebrations. The design was based on the concept of Malaysia Madani, incorporating an uplifted hand that represents the affirmation of the Rukun Negara (National Principles), and also featuring the primary colors of the Jalur Gemilang (Malaysian flag).
Celebrations
National Merdeka Day Parade
Malaysians gather together to witness the hoisting of the Malaya flag, join the National Merdeka Day Parade, watch cultural performances and marching squads of the police and armed forces, and reflect on the historical sacrifices of the country to achieve independence. Along with this, the government launched the “Kibar Jalur Gemilang” on July 13, 2024 which is significant for the countdown of the Independence Day celebration.
Some activities during the Malaysia Independence Day
Ethnic groups are also set to present the diverse culture of Malaysia as MADANI Malaysia Unity Contingent showcases their traditional attire and dances during the celebration. Around 800 participants will don their traditional attire with complete accessories. Traditional performances are also featured such as Jidur and Tetuang dances, as well as Bhangra and Peacock dances This year, the celebration of the 67th Malaysia Independence Day will be held in Putrajaya with multiracial celebration from various ethnic groups in Malaysia by upholding unity through diversity.
