Pakistan emerged as an independent nation on August 14, 1947 as a result of the efforts of Muslims of the Indo-Pak subcontinent. The struggle for independence was led by the All-India Muslim League, under the leadership of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who is revered as the Father of the Nation. Another visionary named Allama Muhammad Iqbal also pushed for the separation of Muslims from India which he addressed during his presidential speech on December 29, 1930. Furthermore, British Prime Minister Clement Attlee announced on February 20, 1947 the complete self-governance of India by June 1948. Pakistan and India became two separate countries on August 14, 1947.
