
With the aim of exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) is integrated into the TVET educational landscape, the Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) organized the international webinar titled ‘Integrating AI in TVET for Skills Development and Inclusive Education’, to bridge the opportunities between TVET and advanced technologies. The webinar was held on February 20, 2025, with a total of 150 participants who joined via Zoom platform and YouTube livestream.
The sessions focused on key topics of ‘Harnessing AI in Competency-Based Education (CBE) for TVET’ and ‘The Role of AI in Inclusive Skills Development’. These sessions were delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Choo Yun Huoy, an educator from the Faculty of AI & Cybersecurity at the Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM); and Dr. Nidhi Gautam, an Independent Consultant and TVET expert on skills development based in India.

In Dr. Choo’s session, she provided a comprehensive overview of how AI can enhance Competency-Based Education (CBE) within TVET, and how education can be more personalized and effective for students. She also discussed AI as a technology, as competency, and its role in TVET education. Dr. Choo presented as well the AI Competency Framework for students and for teachers, including the progression levels for each framework.

Meanwhile, Dr. Gautam’s session focused on global trends in AI and its role in bridging the gap in inclusive skills development. She shared her expertise on how AI can drive inclusive skills development and ensure equitable access to educational opportunities. Some case studies on successful implementation of AI for inclusive skilling were also shared with the participants.

The webinar concluded with an interactive question-and-answer (Q&A) session, which further discussed AI-based educational reforms and initiatives that might be beneficial in the TVET workforce, making it more inclusive, effective, and future-ready. The Q&A session was moderated by Dr. Kesavan Ulaganathen, CPSC Faculty Consultant.
