
A total of 32 lecturers, instructors and trainers from the University Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) participated in the Online In-Country Program on Training of Trainers on Automotive Technology using Virtual TVET from February 24 to 27, 2025, held via Zoom platform. The program was jointly implemented by the Colombo Plan Staff College (CPSC) and Labtech International Ltd. (Labtech) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Suresh Kumar Dhameja, CPSC Director General; and Dr. Steven McKee, Labtech President and Founder.
The four-day online training was designed to introduce TVET Learning Management System (LMS) and Virtual TVET Digital Learning Content, with integration into classroom learning and course management. The sessions also covered the introduction to automotive systems and aimed to develop the students’ knowledge and skills to more advanced studies.

During the program inauguration, Prof. Dr. Dhameja welcomed the participants and thanked Labtech for being one of the esteemed partners supporting CPSC by facilitating training for TVET trainers across CPSC’s member countries. He also extended his gratitude to His Excellency Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Embassy of Malaysia in the Philippines, for his kind presence and support to CPSC’s undertakings.
This was followed by the welcome remarks from Dr. Shahrir Shafiek, Director of Labtech Malaysia Regional Office, and Professor Dr. Yatimah binti Alias, UMPSA Vice Chancellor, who also wished the participants a productive online training.

Furthermore, the Honorable Ambassador of Malaysia, His Excellency Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino delivered his welcome address as the Chief Guest of the program. In his speech, he highlighted the essential skills that come within learning automotive technology in the technical-vocational education and training (TVET) sector in Malaysia. The Ambassador also wished the participants a successful and enjoyable training, and expressed his gratitude to UMPSA for its invaluable support to CPSC and Labtech.



Throughout the sessions, the participants primarily learned about the digital TVET framework and TVET learning management system (LMS) in relation to the technical operation and troubleshooting of new modern training systems such as basic engine fundamentals, electricity and electronics, braking systems, drive systems, and steering and suspension systems. Workshops were also provided for the participants which were facilitated by Mr. Ian William Andrew, TVET Consultant and Trainer from Labtech, together with Mr. Ker.



The program concluded with a closing ceremony held on February 27, 2025, in which Mr. Ian Andrew provided the summary of the program as he wrapped up the four-day training with UMPSA trainers and instructors. Afterwards, selected participants shared their insights from the four-day online training and also extended their gratitude to CPSC, Labtech and UMPSA. This was followed by Dr. Kesavan Ulaganathen, CPSC Faculty Consultant, and Dr. Shafiek who delivered their closing remarks.
Finally, Professor Dr. Yatimah binti Alias officially concluded the program with her closing address as the Special Guest of the ceremony. In her message, Prof. Dr. Yatimah congratulated the participants, as well as CPSC and Labtech for another successful training implemented for Malaysia. She also expressed her enthusiasm for further collaborations with CPSC in the future.
UMPSA’s online training with CPSC and Labtech was successfully completed with the assistance of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Shahrir bin Mohd Sani, Director of UMPSA Center for Advanced TVET, and Ts. Aidil Shafiza bin Safiee, Head of Cluster (Academic) of UMPSA Center for Advanced TVET.
